German footwear retailer Deichmann SE has deployed the cloud-based SAP SuccessFactors software in a bid to streamline its entire human resources (HR) operations and shift all core functions to an online platform.

In recent years, more and more organizations have been turning to SAP SuccessFactors for their HR processes in order to streamline the way they manage their employees and make the most informed decisions possible in business. Along the way, these companies have prioritized exceptional employee experiences, ensuring that all data is being collected and analyzed so that they can effectively plan for short-term and long-term needs.

Deichmann has joined the growing list of companies that have decided to go ahead with SAP SuccessFactors as a strategic move that will help all of the company’s business data from HR and finance be more effectively integrated in the future. The company said that it was the technical answer to the question of how it wanted to ensure everything would work seamlessly going forward.

“Taking this step created a central integration platform for all the solutions that we plan on implementing in HR,” Melinda Hilbert, Deichmann’s IT Manager in Charge of Finance and HR, said.

Established in 1913, Deichmann has been family-owned for the majority of its existence and continues to maintain a tradition of being privately owned. The company is headquartered in Essen with roughly 4,300 stores worldwide and an estimated 42,000 employees. Deichmann operates in 31 countries and can be found in approximately 4,200 locations.

As a market leader in its market in Germany and Europe, Deichmann continues to invest in digitalizing as many of its processes as possible. The company has an in-house IT team who has been working with HR to help them digitalize various scenarios and tasks, such as new employee onboarding, training and development, and performance reviews.

One of the main goals of Deichmann’s IT department is to provide its employees with a smooth experience across all channels, which includes delivering new HR and Finance processes online.

“Our people are our priority,” Hilbert remarked.

Accelerating Digitalization with SAP SuccessFactors Software

With the help of SAP’s cloud-based HR software, Deichmann is now rolling out a smart and innovative new solution that will enable them to standardize their entire HR function. SAP SuccessFactors software is known for its ability to empower global organizations with the tools they need in order to thrive and grow while also increasing employee satisfaction.

Initially, Deichmann has taken steps to digitize the documents that are integral to many of its employees’ day-to-day lives. The first self-service functions are already live and employees have the ability to update their address and bank details, as well as provide an emergency contact themselves.

Then, SAP partner ROOS IT helped the German retailer to implement SAP SuccessFactors in order to improve their HR processes and make the management of the company more efficient. One of the most important first steps was to develop an app that would enable employees to easily get their pay stubs and give them secure access to any data they need on any device they use.

According to ROOS IT Managing Partner Andreas Lennartz, SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) was utilized to create the customized pay stubs for the new employee portal and the SAP Launchpad service, which allows mobile and desktop users to access SAP Fiori applications. He further added:

“What’s more, the SAP solution acts as a central database for applications used across the company and verifies the user’s identity for self-service functions.”

Moreover, digital pay stubs have been rolled out among 1,200 Deichmann employees who are based at company headquarters in Essen and in and around the city. A rollout to stores is set to take place soon, as the majority of its workforce is already familiar with SAP software.
