In a significant move, Accenture has procured Bourne Digital, a top-tier Australian firm known for its proficiency in business-focused design and SAP solutions. This acquisition aims to expand Accenture’s SAP digital design capabilities in Australia, aligning with the increasing demand for digital transformation services in the region

Established in 2015, Bourne Digital is headquartered in Melbourne with additional offices in Sydney and Brisbane. Renowned as a specialized SAP Business Technology Platform partner, Bourne Digital excels at constructing design-centric digital products and experiences. Furthermore, their offerings encompass custom portal and web solutions along with mobile applications, adding immense value to enterprises.

The firm also brings a unique approach to technology strategy, blending design and architectural thought processes. With this acquisition, Bourne Digital’s team of 66 experts will integrate into Accenture’s SAP Business Group in Australia, augmenting Accenture’s capacity to deliver a user-oriented approach in design, architecture, and delivery. Additionally, this move is also expected to promote process excellence using SAP cloud technologies.

Having joined the SAP AppHaus Network in December 2018, Bourne Digital earned the distinction of being the inaugural Australian SAP partner to establish an SAP AppHaus. This initiative is a collaborative forum that gathers creative minds and technical mavens to devise and evaluate innovative solutions, all aimed at augmenting the user interface and promoting the adoption of SAP systems. Furthermore, Bourne Digital’s pioneering efforts in innovation have been acknowledged multiple times, with the company winning the prestigious SAP Innovation Awards in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2023. Additionally, it clinched the SAP ANZ Best Run Awards in 2022.

Addressing the Demand for Rapid Digitization Amid Disruption

Given the rapid and unpredictable disruptions in today’s business landscape, organizations are compelled to digitize their processes within a shorter timeframe to foster creativity, maintain competitiveness, and ensure profitability. Matt Coates, Technology Lead for Accenture in Australia and New Zealand, shared his view that the acquisition would fortify Accenture’s SAP digital design and user experience abilities, helping clients optimize their SAP solutions. While the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, the strategic move aims to bolster Accenture’s SAP offerings, particularly across various dynamic sectors such as fast-moving consumer goods, financial services, resources, health, and travel.

Selim Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Bourne Digital, expressed optimism about the merger. He believes that collaborating with Accenture would provide them an opportunity to scale their operations to meet the burgeoning demands of SAP customers and address the global need for SAP Business Technology Platform services. Moreover, this strategic move is likely to offer their seasoned professionals, who possess a strong design orientation and SAP expertise, novel development opportunities, and potential career advancement.

“It will provide our experienced professionals — with their design DNA and deep SAP skills — with new development opportunities and career growth while helping Accenture further strengthen its leadership position in Australia,” Ahmed added.

Expanding SAP Digital Design Capabilities

Meanwhile, Peter Burns, who heads Accenture’s operations in Australia and New Zealand, acknowledged the synergistic effect of the acquisition. He emphasized that the blend of Accenture’s extensive experience in executing large-scale technology transformations and Bourne Digital’s exceptional talent and user-led design capabilities would yield a potent force in the Australian market.
