SAP UK Limited strives to enable sustainable transformation for various businesses through innovative partnerships, technology solutions, products, and services.

The German software giant is known for demonstrating and enabling the intelligent, sustainable enterprise through its comprehensive portfolio of software applications. SAP’s products and services intend to help organizations of all sizes across a wide range of industries to save energy, reduce emissions, optimize resources, and improve social and environmental performance. In addition, the company has implemented sustainable practices within its own operations, making it a model for other businesses to follow.

At the recently held ERP Today Awards 2022, SAP UK Limited’s vision for sustainability – which lives at the heart of its brand — received praises. The company’s efforts in working towards a circular economy and its #1 ranking as a software industry leader of Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for 15th consecutive year were mentioned as some of the key reasons for the recognition. SAP is committed to continuously finding new ways to reduce its environmental impact and help its customers do the same.

The ERP Today Awards are now in their second year and provide the opportunity for organizations in the IT industry to showcase their best work while also honoring those who have made significant contributions to the sector. For SAP, the Sustainability Excellence Award, ERP Vendor of the Year Award, and Young Professional of the Year Award were given to the company at the ceremony, bringing its total number of prestigious accolades to three. These awards recognize SAP’s dedication towards sustainable transformation, enterprise resource planning (ERP) innovation, and developing young talent.

Socially Responsible Value Networks, Holistic Steering and Reporting, the Circular Economy, and Climate Action are the four aspects of sustainable transformation that SAP’s extensive portfolio of software solutions tackles, highlighting that the tech company is both an “enabler and exemplar” for sustainable business. In particular, SAP’s projects with Unilever and Anglian Water were singled out as noteworthy instances of the company’s valuable work towards assisting enterprises in making a genuine sustainable impact.

“These awards provide validation that SAP is delivering excellent customer outcomes and industry leadership in a highly dynamic market landscape, and we congratulate our fellow finalists and winners on their achievements,” SAP UK & Ireland said in a statement.

Aside from sponsoring the ceremony and receiving the previously stated recognitions, SAP landed as a finalist in the Customer Hero category for its work in helping ElectraMeccanica transform through RISE with SAP. The company was also a finalist in the HR Tech Innovation Award for its involvement in supporting MOD Pizza’s SAP SuccessFactors integration.

Accelerating Sustainability with SAP UK Limited

Further reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, SAP also announced this month that it will be sponsoring and leading an academic research initiative to increase the effectiveness of the United Kingdom’s highways, lessen their impact on the environment, and speed up the country’s transition to a zero-waste economy. In order to improve the planning, building, operation, and use of UK highways, SAP has partnered with the University of Cambridge and National Highways, as well as the UK’s leading provider of engineering and construction solutions, Costain, to take part in the Digital Roads of the Future project.

Tim Embley, Director of Research, Innovation and Development at Costain, commented on the latest partnership, noting that:

“In order to make accurate decisions on the future of our road infrastructure, the UK’s motorway stakeholders need to have reliable and trusted access to real-time data. Our work with SAP to sponsor an academic researcher will support the digitization of our roads, bringing them into the twenty-first century, and will lay the foundations for more sustainable, efficient highway management.”

SAP will provide funding to an academic researcher so that they can develop a motorway-specific database structure leveraging the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). This aims to help solve existing problems with interoperability, such as the inability of current field data to effectively communicate with one another, and facilitate productive, dependable, and secure collection and analysis of data.

According to SAP UK & Ireland Managing Director Michiel Verhoeven, groundbreaking studies on how technology will affect the future of the UK’s transportation infrastructure will be made available through the Digital Roads of the Future program, which will also provide operational and sustainability best practices. He shared:

“We’re delighted to work with prestigious institutions like the University of Cambridge, and leading industrial partners like Costain and National Highways, to sponsor a researcher and showcase how our platforms can drive real industry change.”
