SAP and Intel have been collaborating for many years to deliver innovative solutions that help businesses succeed. Their partnership has evolved over time to meet the changing needs of the market, and they continue to work together to develop new technologies that can help businesses drive growth.

In 2019, SAP and Intel announced a multi-year technology partnership with a focus on optimizing Intel’s platforms, including Intel Xeon Scalable processors and Intel Optane DC persistent memory, for end-to-end SAP enterprise software applications, including SAP S/4HANA. Additionally, the partnership also includes the establishment of a Center of Excellence (COE) to demonstrate the ability of Intel and SAP technology to provide strategic capabilities and enable digital transformation.

Furthermore, the goal of the collaboration is to help businesses accelerate their digital transformation by providing them with the tools and technologies they need to run SAP applications more efficiently and effectively. Already having a positive impact on businesses, the two tech companies help customers improve their security posture and reduce their costs. For example, SAP and Intel have worked together to develop a solution that allows businesses to run SAP S/4HANA on Intel Xeon Scalable processors and Intel Optane DC persistent memory. This solution has resulted in significant performance improvements for SAP S/4HANA, which has helped businesses to improve their operational efficiency and reduce their costs.

Unleashing Unprecedented Performance for SAP and Intel Customers

Intel and SAP have once again joined forces in an exciting strategic collaboration aimed at revolutionizing the cloud-based SAP software landscape. With a shared vision of enhancing scalability, agility, and consolidation for customers, this collaboration marks a milestone in Intel’s commitment to delivering robust and sustainable solutions. By harnessing the advanced capabilities of the 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the partnership seeks to empower businesses with unparalleled performance and security for their SAP environments.

Expressing his thoughts about the latest partnership, Scott Russell, Executive Board Member and Head of Customer Success at SAP, stated:

“By working with Intel and our joint infrastructure-as-a-service partners, we are able to bring the best of our respective technologies together to create a truly innovative and powerful cloud computing solution for our customers. This effort is a testament to our commitment to delivering value to our customers through RISE with SAP, and we look forward to working closely with Intel to continue innovating in the cloud.”

Intel’s 4th Gen Xeon processors have emerged as a game-changer in terms of performance, as validated by SAP Application Performance Standard benchmarks. When compared to previous generations of Xeon processors, the 4th Gen Xeon processors exhibit considerably higher performance numbers. This enhanced performance translates into tangible benefits for SAP customers worldwide, who can now experience unprecedented levels of speed and efficiency.

One of the remarkable achievements of Intel’s 4th Gen Xeon processors is their ability to deliver impressive results, which will directly impact SAP customers. By harnessing the advanced capabilities of these processors, SAP users can expect substantial improvements in processing speeds and overall system performance. This transformative upgrade ensures that businesses can maximize their productivity and accelerate critical operations.

Furthermore, Intel has taken a proactive approach to enhancing virtual machine (VM) sizes. With RISE with SAP, the German multinational’s Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) cloud offering, Intel enables current VM sizes of up to 24TB, a significant leap in capacity. Moreover, Intel aims to further elevate this benchmark by ramping up VM sizes to an astounding 32TB. By expanding the VM capabilities, businesses can enjoy enhanced scalability and accommodate larger workloads, enabling them to seamlessly adapt to evolving demands and capitalize on growth opportunities.

Meanwhile, Intel Chief Commercial Officer Christoph Schell also commented on the collaboration, noting that:

“Many of the world’s largest SAP S/4 HANA® systems run on Intel architecture. The new cloud computing experience powered by 4th Gen Xeon will not only help SAP customers meet growing compliance and security requirements, but it will also enable them to apply advanced technologies for faster, more secure, integrated business processes.”

In their quest to push the boundaries of innovation, Intel and SAP are embarking on a collaborative journey that extends beyond larger instance types in the cloud. Together, they are delving into the realm of confidential computing, aiming to leverage this cutting-edge technology for SAP HANA Cloud – SAP’s renowned database-as-a-service offering. The primary objective of this collaboration is to address the future requirements of enhanced data security and encryption, with an initial focus on harnessing the capabilities of Microsoft Azure confidential computing.
