The strategic alliance between EY and SAP has recently taken a significant leap forward. This enhanced collaboration aims to empower organizations to infuse sustainability into their core functions, ensuring a balanced focus on environmental, economic, and social impact.

Historically, EY and SAP have maintained a robust partnership. EY, with its vast expertise in SAP capabilities, has been a crucial player in offering organizations transformative solutions. The global presence of EY, with over 26,000 seasoned SAP professionals across 150 countries, enables a deep understanding of industry-specific challenges. This expansive reach, coupled with EY’s profound knowledge of regulatory frameworks and financial discipline, puts them in a unique position to assist organizations in swift and effective transformations.

In conjunction with SAP’s state-of-the-art software technology, the duo aims to augment sustainability functionalities tailored to the specific requirements of diverse sectors to enhance their operational efficacy.

Key Pillars of the EY and SAP Sustainability Endeavor

  1. SAP Sustainability Control Tower Solution: EY’s collaboration with SAP centers on shaping the capabilities for future sustainability solutions. Leveraging their combined strengths, they aim to provide tools that will facilitate organizations in transitioning from mere record-keeping to actionable insights. This would enable entities to adhere to multiple regulatory standards and incorporate sustainability metrics within their internal performance evaluations.
  2. SAP S/4HANA Cloud Transformation: The joint venture also emphasizes embedding environmental factors within the business processes spanning finance, tax, supply chain, manufacturing, and HR during the digital metamorphosis with SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
  3. Carbon Accounting and Green Ledger: With EY’s pioneering expertise in climate change consulting and carbon accounting, the collaboration aims to make the green ledger concept envisioned by SAP a reality. Their collective ambition is to refine the metrics and analytics for greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, offering a precise reflection of an organization’s carbon footprint. This would empower companies to manage their GHG performance better and hasten their climate action initiatives.
  4. SAP’s Responsible Design and Production: EY contributes by furnishing timely legal and regulatory updates concerning sustainability incentives, carbon regimes, and tax exemptions worldwide. This is to bolster SAP’s Responsible Design and Production solution.

Addressing the alliance’s objectives, Steve Varley, EY Global Senior Advisor, emphasized the critical need for organizations to progress from mere commitments to demonstrating tangible results. He also underscored the significance of leveraging precise sustainability data, on par with financial data, to achieve this transition. Varley further believes that the bolstered collaboration between EY and SAP will equip clients with the tools, services, and technology essential for value creation and preservation.

Moreover, Gunther Rothermel, SAP Sustainability’s Co-General Manager and Chief Product Officer, reiterated the joint ambition of EY and SAP to elevate their market and planetary impact. Rothermel also shed light on their collective focus on assisting customers in seamlessly integrating sustainability data into their business processes and decisions.

In addition, future plans suggest that EY and SAP will keep the momentum going in their market activities, emphasizing the SAP S/4HANA, RISE with SAP, and GROW with SAP solutions, ingraining sustainability use cases and accelerators.

With the combined strengths of EY and SAP, the world of business is set to witness transformations that not only drive value but also champion the cause of sustainability.
