SAP Canada has initiated a new campaign, Strides for Sustainability, aiming to enhance employee engagement through promoting eco-friendly commuting and wellness practices.
In her article, Natalie Sauve, Head of Integrated Communications, Canada at SAP, highlights the importance of cultivating a positive employee culture and engaging teams to inspire their colleagues. As employees return to the office with the advent of favorable weather, SAP Canada’s Green Teams and Wellness Teams have come together to encourage sustainable commuting practices and enhance overall wellness.
The campaign, known as Strides for Sustainability, was designed to motivate employees to adopt greener transportation methods. The initiative aimed to not only increase awareness of the benefits of sustainable commuting but also to achieve a significant collective milestone as a team.
Furthermore, the Strides for Sustainability challenge was an employee-led initiative that invited participants to walk, bike, or rollerblade to work. For those unable to use these methods, the challenge encouraged them to increase their daily step count and monitor their progress. The campaign also aimed to collectively achieve the equivalent of a journey across Canada, totaling 4,830,000 steps or approximately 3,682 kilometers, within a month.
Additionally, this initiative promoted both sustainable transportation and physical activity while aligning with SAP’s Pledge to Flex and broader sustainability commitments. This dedication is a key reason why SAP Canada was named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers by Canada’s Top 100 Employers in 2024.
Cindy Fagen, Managing Director of SAP Canada Labs, further noted that the company’s success depends on the collective efforts of its teams working towards common objectives, balancing business goals with employee engagement. She also praised the inspiring actions of employee engagement groups who empower their peers and create initiatives that mobilize employees across the nation, ultimately benefiting their health and the environment.
Innovative Campaign for Sustainable Commuting by SAP Canada
Over the four-week campaign, the participation and results were impressive. A total of 110 employees from five different locations took part, accumulating a combined total of 30,180,067 steps, equivalent to 23,003 kilometers. This achievement far exceeded the initial goal, completing the equivalent of 6.25 journeys across Canada. The campaign’s success demonstrated the strong commitment of SAP Canada’s employees to sustainability and wellness, providing an inspiring model for other organizations to prioritize sustainable commuting options.
Anik Roy, Green Team lead at SAP Canada Labs Montreal, articulated the challenge’s vision: to encourage creative, low-carbon commuting options among employees. The enthusiastic participation from colleagues nationwide was highly encouraging, and there is a strong hope that this spirit of sustainable commuting will continue to grow, fostering healthy and environmentally friendly practices year-round.
